It is no secret that I have been a fan of this series of books. Sadly, this is the fourth book meaning there are only two more to go. When I think about where these books could be taking me, I get excited, and that is exactly what books should do.
Miss Penelope Lumley acts as a governess for three Incorrigible Children who spent their formidable years being raised by wolves. Alexander, Beowulf, and Cassiopeia seem to be adjusting as well as three children raised by wolves can adjust to a life full of mysterious characters. An unexpected invitation comes for Penelope when she is invited to be the key note speaker at her beloved alma mater for Celebrate Alumnae Knowledge Exposition (CAKE)! Unfortunately, when Penelope and the children arrive, they find it is not exactly the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females that she remembers. Even her wonderful Miss Mortimer seems a bit subdued. The reason quickly becomes clear. The Board of Trustees has been making changes that are questionable under the direction of Judge Quinzy, who isn’t a judge at all. Once again, Penelope must turn to her friends Simon and Old Timothy to help save the school that she loves, all while keeping the Incorrigibles out of the chicken coop.
The story continues to involve and intrigue me. With just the right blend of humor, mystery, romance, and touching moments, Book Four is definitely a nice addition. These books are great for young kids who are ready for chapter books. They are challenging enough to keep interest, but not so difficult to be discouraging.
