This is the second book in Valenti’s Fairyland series. I was looking forward to it for a LONG time, but with a bit of trepidation. How does one improve or add to a story that I personally enjoyed so much? Valenti continues the story by taking September back to Fairyland, only she finds it strangely changed. Her former friends have been losing their shadows. As September journeys to Fairyland-Below, she discovers it is her own shadow, Halloween, who is responsible for the change. It is up to September to find out how to restore the shadows and order to Fairyland.
As we journey with September, we meet the shadows of her friends Ell, and Saturday. We also meet goblins and all sorts of new interesting characters. September comes face to face with the realities of her real life in Fairyland-Below. Overall, the story was darker, and interesting in its own way. I did think it missed some of the freshness of the original book. Valenti’s first Fairyland book was written and published online in a very quick pace of a serial publication. The second book took a more traditional format to publication, and I do think that sometimes Valenti over thought what she wanted to say and got a bit verbose. I enjoyed this book, and am excited to read the next installment. Lovers of fantasy of all ages will find something they enjoy in this book.
